RAN Tip of The Week! DIY Almond Milk Inspired by Berncenia Lovelace

I've always been a fan of Diamond Breeze Almond milk which is suppose to be an excellent alternative for anyone that doesn’t like cow’s milk or is lactose intolerant. However, my eyes have seen the glory or shall I say taste the glory? However you choose to describe your experience of being awaken or an Ahhhh ha moment as I had after being provided a cup of DIY Almond Milk by my good friend, Berncenia Lovelace...OMG!!! The taste was superb and ohh so creamy and fresh! I will NEVER purchase Almond Milk again!!

Pure almond milk is 100% vegan and very simple to make. Unlike that store brought toxic stuff that is full of hormones and antibiotics, one cup of unsweetened almond milk contains 1 gram of fiber and protein and only around 30 calories.

Here are some additional fabulous benefits of almond milk:

  • No cholesterol reduces the risk of heart disease.

  • Helps weight loss only 30 calories per cup.

  • Good source of omega-3 fatty acids.

  • Rich in calcium.

  • Helps keep your eyes sharp. Rich in Vitamin A,E, & D.

  • Gives you glowing skin with help from Vitamin E.

  • DIY – see the recipe below.

  • 100% Vegan. Free of animal products.

  • Lactose free.

If you want to feel like my good friend, Berncenia and now myself, but don’t have all day to spend in the kitchen, here’s her easy recipe below to make your own almond milk.

Thank you Berncenia for sharing and inspiring me to DIY Almond Milk!

DIY Almond Milk Recipe by Berncenia Lovelace:

What You 'll Need:

Vitamix, Blender or Food Processor

Measuring cup or small bowl

1 Nut milk mesh bag or fine cheesecloth

1 cup of raw almonds

6 cups of water

1 quart size glass bottle

Optional: Vanilla, Cinnamon and/or Sweetener such as: Stevia, Honey, Raw Sugar or Lacuma

How To Make It:

- Soak in 3 cups of water for 8hrs or overnight

- Drain almonds

- Put in Vitamix, blender or food processor and combine 2-3 cups of fresh water and blend at the highest speed for two minutes. Blend up to four minutes

- Strain well. Line the mesh over a measuring cup or small bowl. Gather it up and squeeze well through Nut milk mesh bag or fine cheesecloth.

- Place milk back into Vitamix, blender or food processor.

- Sweeten to taste

Add to taste:

- Pure Vanilla, cinnamon, sweetener

- Blend

- Refrigerate your fresh almond milk.

Note: Homemade almond milk lasts only a couple of days, so be sure to make what you’ll drink within that time. Also the longer you soak the almonds the creamier the milk will taste. And who doesn’t love rich creaminess?

I've personally discovered not to throw away the almond meal! Waste not, want not, and all that. Use it in a smoothie, mix it in your morning oatmeal, add it to your muffins, or cookies. Enjoy!
